- מַעַרְכִיםm. pl., constr. מַעַרְכֵי (b. h.; עָרַֹךְ) arrangements, ordinances, esp. מ׳ (כהן) מלחמה the regulations concerning excuses from the army to be proclaimed before battle (Deut. 20:5–9). Tosef.Sot.VII, 18 on arriving at the frontier he says, מי ששומע ילך לשמוע מ׳ כהן מלחמה let him who hears (this) go to hear the proclamation of the priest of war (v. מָשוּחַ); במ׳ מלחמה מהו אומר what is said in the proclamation before the battle? Sot.42b top שמעו דברי מ׳ מלחמה listen to the words of the proclamation. Ib. VIII, 2 כל אלו שומעין דברי כהן מ׳וכ׳ all these listen to the words of the priest appointed over the ordinances of battle and go back ; Sifré Deut. 193, sq.V. עֵרֶךְ.
